Welcome Aboard! Tips for Starting First Year From our Third Years

Starting First Year can be a daunting new chapter but never fear -we have compiled a list of fantastic tips to get you started on your journey thanks to our insightful Third Year students!

Top Tip One: Try to do your homework as soon as you can after you get home in the evenings. It leaves you freer for the evening and limits stress. You can do way more in the evenings too when you get your homework done early. Leaving it til later won't doing anything for you except stress you out.

Top Tip Two: Be prepared with your books! Have everything ready in the morning for the day ahead - check what classes you have the night before and take one of what you require books-wise for the next day. This avoids the stress of needing to look into someone else's book as this can be annoying g for both of you!

Top Tip Three: Make sure you get involved in something extra curricular. You could try all types of sports, chess, or even get involved in the annual X-Factor show if you love drama or acting! You can make friends easily this way because you are meeting people with the same interests as you. It also helps develop social skills for life and you get to meet people from your area that go to other schools and stuff.

Top tip Four: Respect everyone! This means all students and all school staff. Everyone deserves respect and it costs you nothing to be nice to one another. We don't even need to go into the benefits of this it's pretty obvious!

Top Tip Five : It's really easy to forget your lunch or money for lunch so always have some spare money in your locker for emergencies! Bring a bottle of water with you everyday - you can refill for free at the school water fountain! Reduce, Reuse, Recycle and all that jazz...

Top Tip Six:  Be careful going to the shop in the mornings! And when walking into the school car park as well be really careful because there are a lot of cars reversing when parking and dropping off students - Just keep your wits about you because it can be so dangerous, especially in the dark mornings.

Top Tip Seven: Catch some Zzzzz's! It's so important to get a good nights rest. If you don't have adequate sleep, your concentration levels are effected and as such, your study skills and your ability to process information is compromised meaning it's not where it should be! This will have a knock-on effect on your health also - so try to hop into bed early!

And our last tip, eat well! Healthy body equals a healthy mind!
